"It's the most wonderful time of
the year," and we love the sleigh ride season! Northern
Minnesota is truly a winter wonderland and nowhere is the
experience more enchanting than on a horse drawn sleigh,
snuggled under a pile of warm quilts.
Our sleigh rides are offered in the
evening so you may enjoy the crystal clear view of starry skies
and aurora borealis (the "Northern Lights"). Cap and
Dan, our 2000 pound Belgians, will pull you along lantern-lit
trails to inevitably make a lingering stop at the ever-popular
"kissin' tree." The three-quarters of an hour ride
concludes with home-made hot chocolate served from a wood cookstove
in the warmth of Mark and Nancy's century old log home.
Sleigh rides at Okontoe have become a
yearly tradition for many and our guests frequently comment that
"this was the highlight of our vacation." We are
grateful to have been featured in the Country Woman and Midwest
Living magazines and on Ron Schara's Minnesota Bound television
show.
These are "private party"
rides, meaning that riding on the sleigh will be only the folks
that you bring. Our smallest sleigh accommodates up to four
people, and the largest accommodates twelve. There is usually
enough snow to enjoy a Thanksgiving holiday sleigh ride and we
run them into the second week of March, but of course, the week
or two on either end depend on the snow conditions. Please feel
free to call and check on early and late season trail conditions
if you plan to be in the area. Christmas is a popular time for sleigh rides, so we would encourage early reservations for that
season. However, even if you think it is "too late",
give us a call because a spot may just have opened.
This is a non-alcohol, non-smoking
family environment.
Please call for prices and
reservations, and remember to dress warmly!
